this morning i took the kids to visit grandma and grandpa. she is on a constant downhill path. its so sad to see her this way, but i have to laugh so i don't cry. so today i have to share with you 'life according to grandma...'
scene I:
me and lacy (my cousin) are having a conversation about babies and grandma joined in...
grandma: you know that cute little girl that cuts grandpa's hair sometimes and lives in my old house?
me: andrea? ya, i know her (she's one of my best friends)
grandma: did you know she's pregnant and having twins?
me: really? does andrea know this?
grandma: ya, she told me the other day. i don't think she's had them yet, but i think i had a dream the other night and she was holding them all bundle up on her chest...
lacy: haley, you might want to call andrea and let her know...
scene II:
hunter was playing with a little beany baby chick
grandma: hunter, do you like baby chicks?
hunter: yup!
grandma: there are a few live ones running around here somewhere. i bet you could take one home with you.
hunter: yeah!
now how do i explain that one to him???
scene III:
just chatting away about nothing particular with lacy and grandma.
grandma: your never going to believe what i saw the other day.
me: what? (i'm totally expecting her to tell me about the cat undressing again)
grandma: i saw an alligator nursing her babies.
me: an alligator???
grandma: ya. that's at least what the man sad it was.
me: what man?
grandma: the man that brought the alligator.
me: grandma, an alligator is a reptile. reptile's don't nurse their babies.
grandma: well, this one did. the man on the tv said it was an alligator and he was talking about it nursing it's babies. and he was pointing out that one nipple was bigger than the other nipple and that's why one baby was bigger than the next.
me: (trying my hardest not to laugh) so you saw it on tv?
grandma: ya, i've learned so much sitting here watching tv for the last few months.
lacy: (talking to me) how do you learn about alligators by watching the music channel all day????
when we left, hunter was disappointed he didn't have a real chick, kamryn thinks andrea is having 2 babies (no, she's not preg and not having twins- at least she's not admitting it), and i have a new knowledge about alligators. who knew grandma's house could be such a circus???
when we got home the kids took a 'rest' (kamryn doesn't like the word 'nap') and i was able to get some time in front of my kenmore. this creation is for you marci (not really, but you asked for it)!

She sounds sweet, poor lady... I love grandmas, I miss mine!
That must be so hard to see...you are so strong and I think it is great you are still going and making the most of the visits!

It's so hard to watch our grandparents age. But these are the moments that you'll remember. They are the moments I treasured most after my Papa passed away. Good for you for loving her.
